The Charlotte Community Library completed its annual Summer Reading Program on August 26th, 2023. 90 adults and 242 young people participated in the reading challenge portion and around 1,840 individuals participated in programs and/or took home to-go craft kits.
In the spirit of the reading program’s theme, “All Together Now,” both adults and youth were challenged to read 36 books a month in order to earn a monthly prize and an entrance to a grand prize drawing. All together they returned 956 logs: adults turned in 265 and the youth turned in 691, for a total of 34,416 books or hours. Grand prize winners were drawn at the end of the program.
The Library offered a number of in-person programs, including ones held at Oak Park and the Country Mill and, with the sponsorship of the Friends of the Charlotte Community Library, with Eaton Theatre. Special programs that went with the “All Together Now” theme were also held, which included a Hot Ones Hot Sauce Challenge, After Dinner Strolls, a Puzzle Swap, the Tie-Dye Teddy Bear craft, and an all ages Craft Closet Cleanout.
A big THANK YOU goes out to local Charlotte businesses who sponsored or helped with the program: Biggby, the Country Mill, Culver’s, Dairy Queen, the Eaton Theatre, the Friends of the Charlotte Community Library, Graze Craze, McDonald’s, Mrs. Mary Lee and the late Dr. Don Falik, Sidestreets Deli, Subway, and Taco Bell. Next time you stop in at one of these businesses, let them know how much you appreciate them being a supporter of our community’s Summer Reading Program.
